Crime Comics: Alias

Alias is my favorite Marvel comic. I love seeing the super hero Universe from the perspective of a P.I.

Jessica Jones is the owner (only employee) of Alias investigations. She used to be a super hero name Jewel, but she walked away in very perturbing circumstances, that leaver her with emotional issues.
Jessica drinks, smokes and is little bit self-destructive. With every case you see her try to confront her problems, and you see her run away again. Slowing growing on the process, at the end you truly smile for her.

The other part of the story deals with blackmailing Captain America, a drug problem with Spider girl, a missing mutant girl and more. All with cameos from the Avengers.
The art is dark, and it seems there isn’t a straight line, all perfect for Jessica Jones and her life at the moment.

Title: Alias

Artist: Michael Gaydos and others

Crime Comics: Area 10

From the cancelled Vertigo Crime, Area 10 it’s a good mystery with a supernatural touch.

Detective Adam Kamen is recovering from a head injury, when he comes back to work the NYDP is investigating a serial killer nickname “Henry the eight” who decapitates his victims.

While investigating, Kamen realizes his perception has changed and now he can see glances of past and future, and maybe the killer wants what he got. And all it has to do with some old fashion trepanation.
The art is black and white, beautiful work using negative space and shadows.

Crime comics: A history of violence

Tom McKenna lives a quiet normal life with his family in a small town. Until one day he stops a couple of killers in his diner.

Now he’s a local hero and his face is on newspaper and tv. Which is really bad for Tom, who’s been hiding from the mob for the last 20 years.

Tom must face his past sins.
The art it’s in black and white and scratchy, giving the story a special look.

Crime Comics: Detectives Inc

Ted Denning and Bob Rainier are a couple of Private investigators working in NY city back in the early 1980’s.

In “A remembrance of threatening green” the detectives are hired to investigate the death of a young female doctor. Her girlfriend believes there was no accident.
Meanwhile, Bob has to deal with his feelings for his ex wife. And Ted works hard to not lose his woman. Both men are affected by the investigations. They’re not cynics, the care about their clients.

A mature story that doesn’t talk down to the reader.
The art is black and white. Narration with traditional panels and some imaginative layouts.
