Crime Comics: Green River Killer. A true detective story
On a trip to a new comic book store I found this graphic novel. I heard several podcast recommending it, so I bought it. It was great decision.
As the title says, this is the story of the “Green River Killer” but from the point of view of the police investigation that lasted decades.
The writer Jeff Jensen shows the difficulties his father, Detective Jensen, had to go through to capture the killer, and more important to get some closure to more missing girls and their families.
Jonathan Case (more about him soon) art is in black and white. With fantastic narrative going from chilling scenes to heartwarming family scenes.
Go get it!

Crime Comics: Gotham Central
For years I only heard good things about Gotham Central, and for years I heard how awful the trades were. So I keep ignoring it.
A few months ago I saw a cheap trade at my LCS, I bought it and read it in one sitting. Everything I heard it was true.
A fantastic was to portray the lives of the Detectives in the Gotham City Police Department. Focusing on the Mayor Crimes Unit.
If a cop has to see the worst of society, in Batman’s city things magnified.
But leaving the super hero aspect aside, the series excels at the human level. Getting to know the cops, their personalities, their faults and successes. We’ll learn a lit bit about them in every issue.
The art mostly by Michael Lark fit perfect for this gritty and grimy police procedural. He gives every character a distinctive face.

Lettering
Bad lettering can ruin a book. I admit the first story has some bad lettering. I was using Microsoft’s paint for lettering, no I’m not kidding.
Then I got a little better doing word balloons, but choosing the right font was hard. I made the mistake of changing fonts in “Lost Son” at the end of the story.
I finally made my mind in one font, and I’m using GIMP and yet, my lettering sucked.
Look:
So seeing my mistakes, and going back to another font. I did all the 62 pages all over again. I had to, because bad lettering can ruin a book.
